Une fois n’est pas coutume, l’été s’est avéré particulièrement calme. Aucun événement majeur n’est venu perturber le chemin de croix emprunté par l’économie mondiale. Alors que les étés 2015 et 2016 ont été marqués par le krach boursier en Chine puis par le Brexit, l’été 2017 a au contraire été caractérisé par une faiblesse historique de la volatilité sur les marchés financiers fin juillet, tandis que de nombreux indices boursiers à l’image du S&P 500 ou encore de l’indice MSCI émergents ont quant à eux atteint des points hauts.
Cette situation est-elle source d’inquiétudes ? S’apparente-t-elle à un potentiel excès de confiance, et peut-on craindre un éventuel éclatement d’une bulle ? La profitabilité des entreprises pourrait être mise à mal en cas de chute des marchés financiers.
